prolink_logo_SoftwareIn 1983 Prolink embarked on a mission to write a Statistical Process Control (SPC) software program called QC-CALC™ to interface with all automatic inspection equipment. The need for an easy to use data collection and analysis software was apparent then and continues to this day.

Our philosophy is and has always been to save the customer time and money by automating as much of the data collection and reporting as possible. Many other SPC packages perform similar statistical analysis functions as QC-CALC, but none offer the automatic data collection, database creation, and part switching that has been our cornerstone.

These new product offerings include the SPC Office Buddy which automates the running of custom Excel and Minitab reports, the Enterprise Report Scheduler which allows you to create scheduled rollup reports and shop floor dashboards, and QC-PLC which collects data from Programmable Logic Controllers.

As you are aware Prolink has released the much awaited version 4.0 of QC-CALC, QC-Gage and SPC Office Buddy.  We are very excited about this major milestone in our product development and what it will do to solidify the future of Prolink as a leader in the Data Collection and SPC software field.

Any change of this type can generate many questions and we felt that it would be a good idea to provide some guidelines for you, our representative, as these questions arise with your existing and potential new customers. The first of those questions is likely to be “what does 4.0 offer that is not in 3.4”? The article found in the following link answers that question.

First, considering new customers, it would be our recommendation that you quote and supply the new version 4.0 product in any situation where a customer does not currently own any Prolink software.

In the situation where a customer already owns Prolink software and is adding to those existing licenses there are considerations that should be made.


From a commercial standpoint customers who currently have maintenance agreements in effect can choose to upgrade their existing software at no charge.  They could then purchase version 4.0 for the new licenses being added.  All licenses must be upgrade to 4.0 if any new 4.0 licenses are purchased for use with existing licenses.  If the customer does not have a maintenance agreement in effect the upgrade would be chargeable at normal upgrade rates.

Customers purchasing additional licenses to add to existing licenses can choose to purchase version 3.4 and remain at the same level that their existing licenses are.  The price for additional licenses for version 3.4 and 4.0 are the same and remain unchanged from prices before the release of 4.0.

From a technical standpoint it is not possible to install 4.0 in combination with 3.4 and share data across both versions.  Customers who are considering upgrading existing licenses to 4.0 should be made aware of the actions that will need to be taken to convert existing data files for use with 4.0 and any other changes that may need to be completed.
